SURFING

Northern Scotland offers some of the best surf in Europe. Depending on your ability, there are many places to go, whether you are a beginner, intermediate or expert. The magnificent stretches of beach, abundance of reefs, points and river mouths make the North a popular surfing spot - without the crowds. The main season is between September and May, and there are surfing competitions throughout the year - conditions permitting. Thurso East and Brims Nest are the favourite spots - you can surf the latter between June and August. The average water temperature throughout the year is around 8-12oC.
